Grand Canyon Thanksgiving Break

Fourteen SUU students, a faculty member and a Cedar City resident rafted down the Colorado River during Thanksgiving Break.
Instructions on the river

The group started at Diamond Creek and floated down river to Pearce Ferry, roughly a 54-mile journey.
The SUU trip was one of the first to be on the river during the U.S. Department of Interior’s 2012 “high-flow” experiment.

Water Canyon Hike

Peer Adventure hike in Water Canyon

During the Fall Break Helena Darger led a Pacesetter trip to Water Canyon, a little-known hike located just north of Hildale.
Participants met in the P.E. parking lot at 8 a.m. and took a van down to the trailhead for a day of hiking.
“It is a little-known hike that very few people at SUU have heard of, including some outdoor recreation majors,” Darger said. “Knowing this, I knew that I had to share this hike with anyone interested.”

Jen Evans, Daniel Noirot and Levi Pendleton led the trip for the Harry Reid Outdoor Engagement Center.
Helena Darger participated in the adventure despite never having been rock climbing before.
“It was a challenge, but I can’t wait for the next opportunity to do it again,” she said. “It was a great experience to test my trust in others.”
